Radio can be a pretty powerful tool, and that was no more evident than last week on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh during a recent snowstorm. Host Colin Dunlap took a phone call from listener Colette in nearby Brackenridge. Colette told Dunlap how both she and her husband were disabled and they were having some difficulty with their snow blower.
Dunlap took it upon himself to try and rally 93.7 The Fan’s listener community to help Colette out.
“People need to take care of her snow the rest of this season,” Dunlap said. “She’s had 28 surgeries her husband fell off a truck and he’s all busted up. There are far too many able-bodied people that this lady needs to be out there. Her snow blower isn’t working? What the hell are we doing?”
Colin Dunlap said it’s easy to only be coaxed by money, but maybe in this instance someone who lived in Colette’s neighborhood or one of the surrounding townships could find it in their heart to clear Colette’s front walk-up as an act of kindness.
“It’s not always about giving money. It’s not always about doing things like that,” Dunlap said. “It’s about being able to help people out and maybe give them 10 minutes, 15 minutes of your time.”
“There is no way we’re letting this lady do this,” he added. “We’re not with her husband all busted. Not happening.”
Caller Dan in Cranberry Township offered initially, but then Tom called in and apparently lived closer so that he could take care of Colette.
