KTAR Pairs Bruce St. James and Larry Gaydos in Afternoons, Chris Merrill and Joe Huizenga in Middays

92.3 KTAR has announced a reshuffled daily lineup, which will see Chad Benson depart his current afternoon show where he is paired with Larry Gaydos.

Gaydos will be paired with former 890 WLS morning host Bruce St. James for the 4-7 PM timeslot. Gaydos and Chad had been heard since January 2020, after Gaydos had previously been joined by Mac Watson in the daypart.

Additionally, the station has a new 2-4 PM program, hosted by Chris Merrill and Joe Huizenga. Merrill has worked in a fill-in capacity at KTAR since September 2020 after previously hosting shows on 550 KFYI in Phoenix, KOGO in San Diego, and KMBZ in Kansas City. Huizenga — known on the air as Lloyd Banks — serves as the Assistant Program Director at the station.

With Benson’s departure from afternoons, he’ll continue to host his nationally syndicated program, which will now be heard from 7-10 PM. The station will remove its one-hour evening news program Arizona Evening News, and a two-hour replay of The Ramsey Show with the lineup changes.

“We are thrilled to add new shows that will keep our community informed and connected at such an important time,” said Bonneville Phoenix Senior Vice President and Market Manager Ryan Hatch. “In addition to being one of the most dynamic and fastest growing cities in the country, Phoenix is also the epicenter of the 2024 election with Arizona being a key battleground state.”

“I am excited to welcome back Bruce and introduce Chris and Joe to our already impressive news and talk teams,” added KTAR News Program Director Martha Maurer. “This new lineup will bring exciting new energy and depth to our live and local coverage, both on-air and on our growing digital platforms.”

The new KTAR lineup — which will begin on Monday, February 5th — consists of:
5-8 AM: Arizona’s Morning News
8 AM-12 PM: The Mike Broomhead Show
12-2 PM: The Ramsey Show
2-4 PM: Chris Merrill and Joe Huizenga
4-7 PM: Bruce St. James and Larry Gaydos
7-10 PM: The Chad Benson Show

  1. Totally sucks. We Love Gaydos & Chad together. I guess we will see how it goes. But their chemistry is funny and unique, wish they kept them together!
