The podcast industry continues its expansion and reach with more than 40% of Americans listening to on-demand digital audio. For many radio genres, that’s a bad thing. But for the news media industry, the latest survey results are encouraging.
According to Triton Digital’s 2023 U.S. Podcast Report, news podcasts are the second most popular genre in the entire industry.
Comedy and True Crime join news as the top three genres based on average weekly downloads in 2023.
The top five news podcasts are NPR News Now (NPR), Up First (NPR), The Ben Shapiro Show (Cumulus Podcast Network), The Dan Bongino Show (Cumulus Podcast Network), and Pod Save America (SiriusXM Podcast Network).
The study also showcased the top three shows by audience, with Republicans ranking Bongino on the top slot, with The Charlie Kirk Show and The Mark Levin Podcast as the others in the top three.
Meanwhile, Democrats ranked The Dollop with Dave Anthony & Gareth Reynolds, Pod Save the World, and The Rachel Maddow Show as the top three podcasts.
