ABC News Anchor David Muir Accepts Walter Cronkite Award from Arizona State

Last Thursday, Arizona State University honored David Muir, the managing editor and anchor of ABC News’ World News Tonight, with the 40th Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.

Muir was presented with the distinguished award during a sold-out luncheon held in Phoenix, AZ, after being named the recipient of the honor in September 2023.

“I would argue it was Walter Cronkite’s deep humanity that resonated most with the millions of Americans who watched him; it was his humanity that connected viewers to him most—and what was most impressive about it—was that it wasn’t forced, it wasn’t calculated, it was Walter Cronkite,” Muir said. 

Since 1984, the prestigious award honoring the renowned late CBS News anchor has acknowledged prominent journalists’ outstanding achievements and leadership throughout their careers.

Upon receiving the award, Muir joins a distinguished cohort of TV news personalities that includes Gayle King, Al Roker, Lester Holt, Robin Roberts, Anderson Cooper, Scott Pelley, Christiane Amanpour, Judy Woodruff, the late Gwen Ifill, Al Michaels, and Bob Costas.
