20 CBS News Staffers Part of Widespread Layoffs at Paramount

On Tuesday, about 20 CBS News employees received termination notices due to the wider layoffs occurring throughout Paramount Global.

Variety reports, citing two people familiar with the matter, that the cuts extended across CBS News operations in Washington, D.C., New York, and Los Angeles. Furthermore, the two prominent correspondents that will be cut are Jeff Pegues and Catherine Herridge.

In March 2021, Pegues assumed the role of chief national affairs and justice correspondent at CBS News, while Herridge, who joined the outlet in Washington in 2019 following an extensive tenure at Fox News Channel, has been serving as an investigative correspondent.

Additional employees who have been terminated include Christina Ruffini, a CBS News correspondent who has been part of the team since her internship, and Pamela Falk, a CBS News correspondent specializing in United Nations coverage.

While the staff at CBS News anticipated the layoffs, some employees raised concerns about Paramount’s choice to announce the workforce reduction on Tuesday. This decision came just a day after congratulating the staff for the successful Sunday-night broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII, which achieved record-breaking viewership on CBS and across various platforms.

There was no comment from a network spokesperson on the reporting done by Variety.
