A new AI tool from Google has gone viral due to its reported inability to create images of white people, no matter how specific the prompt from a user is. Erick Erickson believes that’s cause for concern.
In a video clip posted to Instagram, Erickson showcased pictures of users asking the Gemini AI program created by Google to create pictures of — in one instance — a German soldier from 1943. Of the four pictures, only one vaguely resembled a German man, while the others featured an Asian woman, a black and white photo of a Black man, and a Native American woman helping a wounded soldier, all in Nazi uniforms.
When shown the results, Erickson argued that Google has ulterior motives at play.
“Google’s AI is run by Google’s wokes, who are shaping an image of the world that is not true. And they want to control that information because they believe they can improve the information with the power of what they’re doing,” said Erickson.
“And instead what they’re doing to seeding disinformation and allies as clearly part of some political agenda. You should not trust Google any more than you trust TikTok. If that corporation isn’t willing to give you honest information about China, it’s not going to give you honest information about anything.”
After users began highlighting Gemini AI’s inability to produce photos of white people, the company issued an apology.
“We’re working to improve these kinds of depictions immediately,” Senior Director of Product Management Jack Krawczyk told Fox News Digital. “Gemini’s AI image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that’s generally a good thing because people around the world use it. But it’s missing the mark here.”
