Jesse Watters: I Don’t Ever Really Think About My Rise at Fox News

Jesse Watters has worked his way up through the ranks at Fox News to now helm a primetime spot previously occupied by the likes of Bill O’Reilly and Tucker Carlson. But he doesn’t think about his ascension that often.

While talking with Watters about his new book — Get It Together: Troubling Tales from the Liberal Fringeradio host Mike Gallagher mentioned that Watters used to call him frequently to appear as a guest with Bill O’Reilly. Watters got his start with the network working for the cable news legend and has since worked his way up to appearing on The Five and Jesse Watters Primetime, two of the most-watched programs in cable news.

After telling Watters how proud of him he is, Gallagher asked if he ever wakes up and asks how he went from “the guy that used to book cars for schlubs like Mike Gallagher” to “one of the most prominent faces on Fox News Channel has ever had?”

“Do I bask in my meteoric rise to the top from the basement to the top of cable? No, it’s not something I think about very much,” Jesse Watters said. “But, Gallagher, I love you, and I love that you’re having me on. It feels like we’ve come full circle.”

Gallagher continued by sharing that Jesse Watters has earned his success. The Fox News host said one of the best pieces of advice he got was not to read his own press clippings.

“When I started at seven o’clock I went out, and I asked for advice from people,” Watters shared. “One of the things Tucker Carlson told me when I got the seven o’clock, he said don’t read the newspaper articles about you. And that was pretty smart that Tucker didn’t read newspapers about himself, because that wasn’t the nicest thing anybody’s ever said. But I don’t read it. I stay away from it. I don’t read my own headlines, and emotionally, mentally psychologically that’s the best thing you can do.”
