Backbone Networks has slated the debut of the world’s first integrated broadcast system for in-venue audio on mobile streaming devices at the upcoming NAB Show.
Called “SoundSystem,” the service uses existing wi-fi with 5G to bond services together to create unprecedented, sub-second latency that has the ability to feed an entire stadium with no dropouts or dead spots.
SoundSystem can accommodate over 100,000 simultaneous listeners, making it available to nearly every stadium or arena in the nation, and would also handle large-scale concerts or live events. Users can access a free app or a team-specific app to listen to the real-time audio with no latency issues.
According to Backbone, “SoundSystem offers a suite of features that include automation, live assist for radio production, phones, comms, syndication, and streaming software. Listeners will have multichannel access, with options to select the on-air feed or optional channels for visiting teams, alternate languages, or sight-impaired fans.”
The company will demonstrate how the technology works at the upcoming NAB Show in Las Vegas from Saturday, April 13th until Wednesday, April 17th.
