Hallie Jackson: Lester Holt Sent Me ‘Words of Wisdom’ Before NBC Nightly News Sunday Debut

Hallie Jackson made her debut as host of the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News yesterday. She shared that she didn’t undertake the assignment alone, receiving guidance from Lester Holt along the way.

Jackson has worked at NBC News since 2014, rising through the ranks of the network after beginning as an embedded reporter with the presidential campaign of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). She eventually ascended to hosting programs on MSNBC and became NBC News’ chief White House correspondent.

However, anchoring NBC Nightly News felt like a different animal, she told People magazine, adding that Holt has been supportive as she prepared to take the anchor chair of the network news program.

“Lester is texting me words of wisdom and it’s great to feel that support and love,” Jackson said.

“The best advice I ever got was just: ‘Be yourself,'” she continued.

Hallie Jackson took over the anchor chair from Kate Snow, who departed the weekend edition of the news show in February. Lester Holt has been hosting the weekday edition of the show since 2015, after serving as the weekend host from 2007 until his promotion to the main anchor chair.
