Will Cain: I Value Having ‘Platform Where I Can Have Deep, Interesting Conversations’

Will Cain has seen his profile grow at Fox News since joining the network in 2020, including the launch of The Will Cain Show podcast. He places a high value on having that platform.

While speaking with the hosts of the Ruthless podcast, Cain was asked what he would be doing if he could do anything in the world. The Fox News host said he’s nearing that right now.

“I’m getting close to doing that. Honestly, it is The Will Cain Show. I want to have a platform. I don’t actually — in the end — care about how big it is. I want it to be big, but I want to have a platform where I can have deep, interesting conversations, lay out my thoughts, interact with the audience, and just be real. That’s what I want. And we’re getting really close to that with The Will Cain Show.”

Cain also shared his media journey, discussing his rise through local newspapers and local media entrepreneurship that led to him appearing on both Fox News and CNN before moving to ESPN.

He shared that he secured a role with CNN by directly emailing the outlet’s top executive.

“I guessed at the email address of the president of CNN. It was first name, last name at Turner. And I sent him some clips. I said, ‘You need a voice like mine over at CNN’, and this is like 2009 or 2010. This is when CNN was liberal, but not propaganda,” said Cain. “He emailed me back within 15 minutes and he said, ‘You’re right. Come on in.’ So we set up a meeting.”

Will Cain said the story represents his viewpoint on getting things done in this industry.

“My life lesson for everybody on that is like — first of all, I’ve never been afraid of hearing no. And I don’t care if you get a thousand no’s, it only takes one yes. But make sure you go to the people that have the ability to say yes,” he suggested. “I could have asked a dozen people under him, and all they would have been able to say is no. They wouldn’t have been able to say yes. But he could say yes.”
