Elon Musk: ‘The Public Has a Right to See Presidential Debates However They Would Like’

As the CNN presidential debate approaches, many digital creators are making plans to utilize the content for their own purposes. They will have an ally in Elon Musk.

Tim Pool, who features more than a million subscribers on YouTube, has shared plans to showcase his commentary alongside the debate Thursday evening when a CNN spokesperson informed him that would not be allowed.

“We are not granting digital entities the right to stream the debate on their own YouTube channels,” a CNN spokesperson told Pool, according to the Post Millennial. “I hope that helps.”

After being informed that his content plans would not be sufficient enough to avoid a DMCA takedown strike from YouTube, Pool asked X owner Elon Musk about whether or not the social media platform would be operating in similar fashion.

Musk shared that he would defend creators on the app.

“The public has a right to see Presidential debates however they would like,” Musk said. “DMCA does not apply.”

According to CNN, it believes “debates are exclusive to CNN and may not be streamed or streamed with verbal or digital commentary on any platform or social media site by another party, other than the embeddable YouTube player via the CNN YouTube channel.”

However, Musk’s response to Pool appears to show he will not abide by those parameters put in place by the network.
