Fox News has long been a cable news juggernaut. Recent ratings results show just how strong the brand is in the cable television ecosystem overall.
At the conclusion of June, Fox News finished as the most-watched network in both the total day and primetime ratings. According to Nielsen, that marks 90 consecutive quarters — or 22-and-a-half years — as the top cable news network.
In the total day ratings, Fox News averaged 1.3 million viewers, with 154,000 in the adults 25-54 demographic. Meanwhile, in primetime, the network averaged just over 2 million viewers. MSNBC averaged 1.1 million viewers, while CNN tallied 618,000 for the quarter.
With its June ratings finish, Fox News is the most-watched cable TV network for the 40th consecutive month.
The Five finished as the top cable news program for the 11th consecutive quarter. For the quarter, the show averaged 3.1 million viewers.
In primetime, the show hosted by Jesse Watters averaged an audience of 2.7 million for the quarter. In the persons 25-54 demographic, it averaged 260,000 viewers. Additionally, Gutfeld!, which is approaching the one-year anniversary of moving to the 10 PM ET timeslot, saw it’s highest quarter ever. The show earned an average viewership of 2.3 million. The show is on track to see its most-watched year in its history.
Additionally, Fox Business Network ended the second quarter as the top cable business network in total day viewers, according to Nielsen. For the 10th consecutive quarter, Kudlow — hosted by Larry Kudlow — was the top business program on cable TV. It averaged 282,000 viewers.
In total day viewers, Fox Business averaged 124,000, while CNBC averaged 119,000. During market hours, however, CNBC just eclipsed FBN with an average audience of 178,000 compared to 176,000 for Fox Business.
