Charles Barkley is justifiably upset that the NBA decided to leave TNT out of its next TV deals, and 105.3 The Fan morning show host RJ Choppy believes that Barkley isn’t being realistic about the decision.
During Shan & RJ Monday, Choppy reacted to comments Barkley made that suggested the NBA made a mistake by simply choosing to place its broadcasts with the highest bidder, saying that the best thing for fans was likely neglected in exchange for more money.
Choppy shared his belief that while Barkley is correct in his stance on principle, the reality is the NBA is a business and it’s all about the Benjamins.
“He’s absolutely right in the sentiment. It’s not realistic. You’re going to take the most money, for the most part,” RJ Choppy said.
He added that the NBA might face an issue he has with another professional sports league.
“This is my complaint with Major League Baseball,” Choppy continued. “Major League Baseball sold out to FOX and TBS because they paid them the most. They took more money from FOX, and they should have said ‘Hey, we’ll take less money from FOX, but you’re gonna put us on FOX. None of these games are gonna be on FS1. You’re gonna give us FOX.’ They should have taken less money from ESPN than more money from TBS. The ESPN promotional machine is your friend.”
With the NBA failing to ink a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to keep games on TNT, Charles Barkley has insinuated his TV career is likely over, sharing that he can’t see himself working for another company.
