FOX Sports Attains Strong Viewership for Finals of UEFA EURO 2024, CONMEBOL Copa América 2024

The UEFA EURO 2024 championship is the most-watched non-World Cup soccer telecast in FOX history.

FOX Sports attained record audiences for its broadcasts of the final matchups within the UEFA EURO 2024 and CONMEBOL Copa América 2024 soccer tournaments, delivering its two largest soccer audiences ever outside of FIFA World Cup broadcasts. The Sunday afternoon final game between Spain and England averaged 6.43 million viewers on FOX, rendering it the most-watched Euro telecast and final in U.S. English language television history. This matchup peaked at 8.465 million viewers from 4:30 to 4:45 p.m. EST as fans watched Lamine Yamal and Spain win the championship by a final score of 2-1. The game is the most-watched non-World Cup soccer telecast in FOX history.

The previous record for the UEFA EURO final was set in 2021 when the game between Italy and England averaged 6.07 million viewers on ESPN. This is the first year FOX has broadcast the tournament after the company signed a six-year broadcast deal with UEFA that also includes the 2028 championship. The tournament as a whole averaged 1.68 million viewers on FOX, which is up 34% from the presentation in 2021 and earns it the distinction of being the most-watched UEFA EURO Championship in U.S. English language television history.

While the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024 championship game featured an extensive security breach at Hard Rock Stadium that led to several arrests, the matchup between Argentina and Colombia delivered on its high expectations. The game attained an average of 6.02 million viewers, the most-watched Copa América final telecast in U.S. English language television history. FOX has been broadcasting the tournament since 2016, and the game became the second most-watched non-World Cup soccer telecast in the history of the network. The matchup peaked at 7.07 million viewers from the quarter-hour of 10:45 to 11 p.m. EST. Lionel Messi and Argentina won its second consecutive Copa América championship in a 1-0 victory over Colombia.

The tournament in its entirety averaged 1.418 million viewers on FOX, FS1 and FS2, which is up 359% from the previous iteration in 2021 and 44% from 2016. As a result, it is the most-watched Copa América tournament in U.S. English language history. The championship matchup within the tournament also aired on Univision, numbers for which have not yet become available. For the UEFA EURO 2024 championship game, the matchup also aired on Univision’s streaming service VIX, which is not within the auspices of traditional Nielsen Media Research metrics.
