Elon Musk spent billions to purchase Twitter, which he subsequently renamed X. Podcaster Kara Swisher believes he has tainted the reputation CEO Linda Yaccarino once had in the advertising world.
While discussing Yaccarino with Scott Galloway on the Pivot podcast, Swisher argued that the former advertising executive has likely torpedoed any chance of a future career after working with the social media platform.
“I mean, this is not a business. I don’t know what she’s doing there. I don’t care for her but it’s an embarrassing way to spend your life. If you’re a real ad person, which you used to be, get a job at a real company, as difficult as it may be, at NBC or Warner,” said Swisher. “You’re just a ridiculous figure at this point.”
Her comments came after Galloway argued the former advertising executive has a great relationship with potential targets, but the nature of content on X keeps them away from spending with the platform.
“Linda Yaccarino is literally moving from irrelevant to less relevant and it makes her a fun story and clickbait. She has almost no influence at that company, she doesn’t make any decisions, has no control over her boss, she is pushing a rock up a hill trying to call advertisers who — to my understanding — love her and have had a wonderful experience with her professionally,” he said. “‘Linda, I love you but there’s no f—ing way we’re pulling up a seat to’ as (Swisher) calls it, the nazi porn bar.”
The discussion centered upon Musk violating the platform’s own guidelines for using a video of Vice President Kamala Harris last week that showed her claiming that AI could be used as a nefarious tool in the upcoming election. However, the fact the video was a deep fake did not stop Musk from sharing it to his millions of followers.
