On Tuesday, 77 WABC host Sid Rosenberg went viral for his conversation with Donald Trump. On Wednesday, he put into perspective just how viral those comments were.
Rosenberg welcomed station social media staffers Gina Lymberopoulos and Stephanie Bongiorno to Sid and Friends in the Morning to detail how gigantic the numbers from the New York news/talk station were after the interview.
They claimed videos produced from the interview with Trump were a 200% increase compared to what they usually see in a single day. They also said one video on Instagram had already garnered one million views, while another was trending toward eclipsing that figure.
During the conversation, Sid Rosenberg — who is Jewish — called Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff a “crappy Jew”, which Donald Trump appeared to agree with by saying “Right, yes” while Rosenberg continued his onslaught on the Second Man. He compared Emhoff to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and George Soros in the process. Trump later said any Jewish person who votes for a Democratic candidate “should have their head examined” and later said they were “a fool, an absolute fool.”
After the interview, both Rosenberg and Trump faced charges of anti-Semitism for their comments.
“Anderson Cooper talked about it. Jake Tapper talked about it,” the host said. “Rolling Stone magazine, Norah O’Donnell. And that does help. I say this to guys in management all the time: Don’t minimize what this stuff means. About a week ago, a person in Australia found the show, reached out, and said ‘I love your Instagram clips.’ They thought I was doing Instagram Live shows. I told them it was from my radio show, and I got a listen. People see these things and it does generate listeners.”
77 WABC claimed the interview between Rosenberg and Trump saw a 35% spike in stream listening, while owner John Catsimatidis joked “Make sure your ratings tomorrow are as good as today’s,” while welcoming Rosenberg to his afternoon show on Tuesday.
