Donald Trump has returned to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter before Elon Musk rebranded it, for the first time since he was banned by the previous regime after the January 6th Insurrection.
Trump’s return to the social media platform comes as he is expected to sit down with Musk for an interview that will be available for users at 8 PM ET. The interview will air live on Trump’s account, which still features more than 88 million followers despite only tweeting one time in the last three-and-a-half years.
Elon Musk shared that the social media platform has done “some system scaling tests … in advance of the conversation.” When Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) launched his presidential campaign, he did so on the social media platform, which was mired by technical issues.
Previously, Donald Trump has balked at returning to the Musk-owned app, instead favoring his own Truth Social platform. However, that company reported $16 million in losses during the second quarter while only earning $1 million in revenue for April, May, and June. The company’s stock price dropped 7% after the financial results were disclosed.
Elon Musk, who has endorsed Trump in the 2024 race for the White House, welcomed the former President back to the platform with open arms after purchasing the social media company in 2022.
After returning to the platform, Trump tweeted a series of campaign videos before promoting his conversation with the billionaire.
