Mark Kaboly Let Go by The Athletic After 7 Years Covering the Pittsburgh Steelers; Pat McAfee Offers Support

Kaboly has covered the Steelers since 2002.

Mark Kaboly, who spent the last seven years covering the Pittsburgh Steelers for The Athletic, has announced he is no longer with the company. In a social media post on X, Kaboly posted, “Well, looks like I just became a free agent. If anybody is looking for a veteran Steelers/NFL writer with 22 years of experience, feel free to reach out to me. DMs are open.”

Kaboly has covered the Steelers since 2002 with the McKeesport Daily News and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He also spent a year with Dejan Kovacevic’s DKPittsburghSports.com.

Kaboly is well known to Pat McAfee’s audience as he is a frequent guest on the show. McAfee said today, “Just know that Kaboly’s going to be ok, Kaboly’s gonna be a-ok. And we may or may not have already been in contact with Kaboly, and I know we aren’t the only ones.”

Kaboly is also the president of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America.

Recently, several writers from The Athletic have left the company, although most seem to have been voluntary. Just last week Nicole Auerbach announced her departure and prior to that college football writers Ari Wasserman, Max Olson and Kalyn Kahler all left.
