NBC Nightly News Sees Big Ratings Jump Through 2024 Paris Olympics

The Olympics gave the program anchored by Lester Holt its largest single-day advantage over ABC World News Tonight since November 2017.

Now that the 2024 Paris Olympics are over, NBC News is recapping its ratings performance from the event, with NBC Nightly News being a big beneficiary of the games.

From Friday, July 26th, through Thursday, August 8th, NBC Nightly News averaged 7.64 million viewers. 1.46 million were from the Adults 25-54 demographic, with 1.14 million in the Adults 18-49 demo.

Additionally, the Olympics gave the program anchored by Lester Holt its largest single-day advantage over ABC World News Tonight since November 2017 when it saw 8.5 million viewers on Monday, August 5th. It also saw its highest total viewership since the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro.

The average of 7.64 million viewers is a dramatic jump for the Holt-led program. In the weeks preceding the 2024 Paris Olympics — which included prominent news stories like the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, and the Republican National Convention — NBC Nightly News averaged 5.5 million viewers, trailing the Muir-anchored program from ABC News by nearly 1.5 million viewers.
