Pat McAfee Hires Pittsburgh Steelers Insider Mark Kaboly After He is Fired by The Athletic

"We've already hired him," McAfee said to Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

When one door closes, another opens, or at least that is how it worked for former The Athletic writer Mark Kaboly. He had been on the Pittsburgh Steelers beat for the last seven years as part of The Athletic but was let go earlier this week. His friend Pat McAfee stepped up to bring him aboard his team.

Kaboly is well known to McAfee’s audience as he is a frequent guest on the show. McAfee said when he learned of the news, “Just know that Kaboly’s going to be ok, Kaboly’s gonna be a-ok. And we may or may not have already been in contact with Kaboly, and I know we aren’t the only ones.”

Now, that has been made official as McAfee announced on his show that he has hired Kaboly to cover the Steelers and the NFL for the show.

“We’ve already hired him,” McAfee said to Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith who was on the show as a guest at the time. McAfee had jokingly asked Smith if there was a moment of silence at Steelers training camp when they found out Kaboly had been let go. “He is highly regarded around here … if I was betting I’d bet that he’ll find a way to have success,” Smith said.

That is when McAfee made the official announcement.

“Let’s GOOOO,” Kaboly posted on X in response to McAfee posting the segment with Arthur Smith on the show.

Kaboly also provides Steelers coverage for 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh and will continue to work for them moving forward.
