Shams Charania is reportedly leaving Stadium after spending six years with the outlet as he approaches free agency. Throughout his time with the sports media brand, he has appeared on special programs surrounding the NBA Draft and free agency where he would break news of transactions in real time. Additionally, he hosted a weekly show titled Inside the Association and was also a regular guest on The Rally, its studio television program with Brooke Fletcher and Joshua Perry. Charania, who also works for The Athletic as a senior NBA writer and FanDuel TV on Run It Back, is on expiring contracts with both entities, according to a report from Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, who broke the news on Charania’s departure from Stadium.
Sources cited within the report expressed that it is unknown whether or not Charania will stay at The Athletic and FanDuel TV as his contract negotiations continue. Charania first joined The Athletic in 2018 after working as the national NBA insider for Yahoo Sports. He has been appearing as a co-host on Run It Back with Michelle Beadle, Chandler Parsons and Lou Williams two years ago to provide his insights regarding NBA news and developments. Outside of his on-air work, Charania has also participated in sponsored content for companies such as AT&T and State Farm.
The National Basketball Association recently signed new 11-year media rights deals with The Walt Disney Company (ESPN/ABC), NBCUniversal (NBC/Peacock) and Amazon (Prime Video) reportedly worth a collective $77 billion. While Disney is continuing its relationship with the league and has a roster of studio talent, NBCUniversal and Amazon are reportedly looking to create rosters for the coverage in the forthcoming months.
