The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh is often the subject of criticism from the other side of the political aisle. He told Joe Rogan he’s ok with that, but there’s an aspect of being a public figure that he’s still grappling with.

While appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience to promote his new movie Am I Racist?, Walsh asked the podcast host and comedian how he handles the spotlight.

“Do you pay attention to what people say?,” Walsh asked.

“No,” Rogan replied. “Shouldn’t do it. No, it’s not good for you.”

“I’ll admit that I’ve done it on occasion,” Walsh said. “If you want to just destroy yourself, you can do it pretty quickly. The thing that gets me is I don’t mind when people insult me. I don’t care. I’m used to it. It’s the lies. When I see something about myself that’s just a straight-up lie, totally made up, and then it picks up traction. It could be even someone photoshopping a tweet that I never said, whatever, anything. That stuff still, still, bothers me.

“And I try to tell myself it shouldn’t bother me, but at the same time, it should. It’s like, no, it’s normal for a person to be bothered you’re being lied about. And other people are believing a lie. I think it’s a normal human reaction that I’m like, ‘That’s not fair. It’s not true.’ You can attack me for things that I really have said and done, but you can’t do that. That’s not true. But then at a certain point, you just have to sort of get into it and realize this is the way the internet works, I guess.”

Both Matt Walsh and Joe Rogan agreed that if they were not public figures, they would not utilize social media due to the toxic nature of the content and the constant conflict the platforms permit and at times entice.
