Former NBC News anchor Brian Williams is being eyed by Amazon Prime Video for a special election night broadcast on the streaming service.
A report from Variety claimed that the two parties were in preliminary talks for the longtime NBC Nightly News anchor to helm an election night special for the platform.
The endeavor would be a first for Amazon Prime Video. Previously, its digital video efforts were centered on entertainment and sports programming.
According to the Variety report, the deal is not finalized and should also not be viewed as a first step by Amazon of entering the news space. Rather, it follows the platform’s previous history in producing live events.
The program helmed by Williams, if it comes to fruition, is expected to focus on a both-sides approach to the happenings on election night. Brian Williams has been largely absent from news television programming since he departed NBC News and his evening program on MSNBC in December 2021.
