For the sixth time since Sept 2023, Monday Night Football averaged more than 20 million viewers on ESPN Networks. This according to Nielsen Fast Nationals, with official numbers coming tomorrow. The game featured Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers taking on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. It aired on ESPN and was simulcast on ABC. The viewership numbers also include ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and the streaming on NFL+.
The Chiefs typically draw well, not only because they are the league’s only undefeated team, but also because of those people just tuning in to get a glimpse of music superstar Taylor Swift. Swift was in the building for the Buccaneers game as her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his teammates pulled out a 30-24 win in overtime.
The game was tight throughout and Tampa Bay tied it with 27 seconds left to play in regulation. The Chiefs won the coin toss and proceeded to march down the field and get into the endzone on a two-yard run by Kareem Hunt to end the game.
Monday Night Football features Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in the booth along with Lisa Salters on the sidelines. Salters was joined this week by Laura Rutledge who had filled in for Salters in recent weeks. Next week the game is airing only on ESPN, without the ABC simulcast. It will feature the Miami Dolphins at the Los Angeles Rams.
