Barstool Sports has announced it has hired Jon Gruden for an unspecified role with the company founded by Dave Portnoy.
The hiring of Gruden was announced Thursday morning by Portnoy after an initial report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The report from Schefter claimed the new deal between Barstool Sports and the former NFL coach was a multi-year partnership.
In the announcement video, Barstool Sports employees were diagraming the famous Spider 2 Y Banana play made famous by Gruden’s analysis in an ESPN interview with Andrew Luck in 2012.
The 61-year-old Gruden has been out of the NFL for the past three seasons after being fired by the Las Vegas Raiders after racially charged emails from the Super Bowl-winning coach were unearthed by an investigation.
It isn’t Gruden’s first foray into the media world. Between coaching stints with the Tampa Bay Buccanneers and the Raiders, Jon Gruden served as the lead analyst for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
He also recently launched his own YouTube channel dissecting professional and college football. His “Gruden Loves Football” channel has nearly 200,000 subscribers.
