Reggie Miller, a former forward for the Indiana Pacers and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, is reportedly “poised” to join NBC Sports as a color commentator on its NBA coverage next season. Miller, who has worked for TNT Sports over the last 20 years as part of its presentations of NBA game broadcasts, would be calling games alongside play-by-play announcers Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle. NBC Sports declined comment on the situation surrounding Miller to Barrett Media. Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports was the first to report the news.
Miller would mark another hire for NBC Sports as it builds out its NBA talent roster, which has included signing Jamal Crawford to serve as a color commentator. Sources cited in the report state that Miller and Crawford will be rotating as the top analysts and work with both of the aforementioned play-by-play announcers. Miller has frequently worked with Kevin Harlan at TNT Sports, but the play-by-play announcer is reportedly expected to call games for Amazon’s Prime Video.
NBC will be broadcasting NBA games for the first time since 2002 as part of an 11-year media rights agreement between parent company Comcast and the league. The deal, which is reportedly worth $2.45 billion annually, includes rights to one of two Conference Finals for six years, the NBA All-Star Game and exclusive doubleheaders Monday nights on Peacock. Furthermore, NBC Sports will present at least 50 WNBA games in the regular season and early postseason under the new deal, five of which will be broadcast on the NBC linear broadcast network. NBCUniversal will also broadcast USA Basketball men’s and women’s games leading into the Olympic Games in 2028, 2032 and 2036.
