An episode of The Joe Rogan Experience featuring Elon Musk has led to conspiracy theories about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. CNN is now defending itself after the situation.
While Rogan and Musk were discussing the July 2024 assassination attempt against Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, Rogan alleged “there was a lot of weird (expletive)” relating to the situation. One of the things he deemed as questionable was why CNN was broadcasting the Trump rally live.
“You also know that CNN streamed it live, which I do not believe they did for any other rally—and certainly not for a rally in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania,” said Rogan.
After Joe Rogan continued discussing the oddities he believed, Elon Musk added “I totally agree. It makes no sense.”
The discussion led to dozens of questions on the X social media platform about why CNN was broadcasting the rally in the first place.
The situation grew in prominence on social media when billionaire Bill Ackman questioned why CNN was covering the event.
“What are the chances @CNN was tipped off to stream the Butler rally?” Ackman wrote on X. “Why isn’t this worthy of an investigation? It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out who orders the coverage and why.”
The network, however, said there was a completely rational and logical reason for why it was covering the event live.
“CNN provided live coverage of President Trump’s Butler, PA, rally in anticipation of news about his pick for Vice President,” the network said. “Any suggestion contrary to that fact is completely false.”
