Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was in a celebratory mood after the news of 670 The Score parting ways with longtime host Dan Bernstein today following an incident that took place last weekend on social media. Bernstein had posted a picture of himself catching a large fish, writing that it was “a helluva fight.” However, a follower claimed that the fish was a pregnant northern pike. As criticism mounted over killing the fish, Bernstein engaged in a heated exchange with the follower, ultimately threatening them to a fight and potentially doxxing the individual.
Looking back, this is not the first time Bernstein has drawn attention for his actions. In 2024, he caught the eye of Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy after Barstool Chicago host Eddie Farrer co-hosted a show on the station alongside Matt Spiegel. During the transition segment, Bernstein ostensibly took umbrage at being addressed by his last name. This moment led to Portnoy publicly admonishing Bernstein on social media and later revealing that he had won a charity auction to produce Bernstein’s radio show.
Fast forward to today, Portnoy wasted no time celebrating Bernstein’s departure from 670 The Score.
“Dan Bernstein, that guy that works for the Chicago radio station that got mad at Eddie for calling him Bernstein,” explained Portnoy via X. “I tweeted out in real time that guess what, Bernstein, you got a champagne bottle. When that happens, it’s only a matter of time.”
As a follow-up to his remarks, the Barstool Sports founder dramatically popped the bottle of champagne he had stored in Bernstein’s honor, serving it to the Barstool Sports crew during a live stream while watching the NCAA March Madness tournament.
“He got fired just a couple of minutes ago,” said Portnoy. “Took me about two months to pop the champagne for you in the office.”
Meanwhile, 670 The Score’s vice president and brand manager, Mitch Rosen, made the official announcement during the station’s midday show on Friday, confirming Bernstein’s exit.
“We want to share some important news with our Score listeners, partners, and teammates,” Rosen said over the airwaves. “We are announcing today that Dan Bernstein no longer works at The Score. We wish him nothing but the best and thank him for his time and service. Thank you.”
In the wake of Bernstein’s departure, the station has already updated its website, listing “Score Middays” with current host Marshall Harris as the sole name attached to the time slot. However, it remains unclear how 670 The Score plans to approach finding a co-host for Harris, as all weekday shows traditionally feature multiple hosts.
