Cat Thomas Joins SonicTrek.ai as Director of Marketing, AI Affiliate/Talent Relations

0

Radio programming veteran Cat Thomas has joined SonicTrek.ai in a newly created role that underscores the company’s continued push to blend traditional radio expertise with emerging artificial intelligence technology.

Thomas has been named Director of Marketing and AI Affiliate/Talent Acquisitions and will begin his duties immediately. In the role, he will work closely with Partner and Chief Revenue Officer Mike Agovino. Together, they will identify, develop, and onboard new affiliate partnerships. He will also collaborate with Partner and CEO Joel Denver and Director of Programming Dennis Constantine. Their work will focus on localized marketing strategies, station format development, and recruiting new AI-powered on-air talent.

The hire adds another experienced voice to SonicTrek.ai’s leadership team as the company continues to position itself as a forward-thinking content provider for radio operators navigating a rapidly evolving audio landscape.

Denver said bringing Thomas on board was a significant step for the company. He pointed to Thomas’ three decades of experience programming and marketing successful stations across multiple formats, including Top 40, Hot AC, AC, Classic Hits and Country. Thomas most recently served as OM for the Las Vegas Beasley Media cluster while also programming Hot AC 102.7 VGS KVGS and Alternative X107.5 KXTE. He began with the cluster since the fall of 2020.

“Having Cat join us is a major win,” Denver said. “He brings an exceptional depth of experience, creative ideas and industry relationships. That combination will be invaluable as we expand our affiliate footprint, develop new AI-hosted offerings and continue building localized content strategies that resonate in individual markets.”

Agovino echoed that sentiment, noting the company’s ongoing expansion. He described Thomas as an innovative thinker whose background strengthens SonicTrek.ai’s growing expertise as it scales its business and programming initiatives.

Constantine said the hire aligns with the company’s broader mission to modernize radio while preserving its core strengths. He added that Thomas’ background shows a strong understanding of both creative and commercial audio. That combination makes him a natural fit for SonicTrek.ai’s long-term vision.

“Cat understands how great programming is built and how it connects with audiences,” Constantine said. “That insight is critical as we look to combine proven radio fundamentals with modern technology in a way that feels authentic and effective.”

Thomas said the opportunity appealed to both his passion for programming and his interest in technology. He noted that artificial intelligence continues to grow in influence across media and believes programmers must find ways to integrate it into local brands and talent-driven content.

“This is about staying ahead of where the industry is going,” Thomas said. “AI isn’t replacing creativity, but it can enhance it when used thoughtfully. SonicTrek.ai’s vision of combining real talent with AI-curated content is what excited me.”

SonicTrek.ai currently offers four AI-infused, market-localized formats. They include Phoebe: Curiously Alternative, a female-leaning alternative format. Also included are Starship, a reimagined Classic Rock concept by Lee Abrams, and MyCountry.fm, a modern Country format. Cool Classics rounds out the group with a refreshed take on Classic Hits. Each is designed to give stations customizable, locally relevant content while leveraging AI-driven tools to support programming and engagement.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette To End Operations May 3

0

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s ownership announced Wednesday that the newspaper plans to shut down operations on May 3, marking a dramatic and potentially historic moment for one of the country’s longest-running metropolitan news organizations.

In a statement, Block Communications Inc. said continued financial losses have made it impossible to keep the paper operating under current conditions. The family-owned media company, which is based in Toledo, Ohio, has owned the Post-Gazette since 1927.

“Over the past two decades, Block Communications has invested more than $350 million in cash to sustain the Post-Gazette,” the company said. “Despite those efforts, the ongoing financial challenges facing local journalism mean losses of this magnitude are no longer viable.”

The announcement came the same day the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene in a labor dispute involving the newspaper, a decision that appears to have accelerated the company’s timeline. Wednesday, the justices rejected a request from the Post-Gazette’s publisher to block a lower court ruling that requires the company to alter its health insurance coverage for unionized employees, according to a report by Bloomberg Law.

The Supreme Court action left in place a temporary injunction issued more than nine months ago by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. The justices also vacated an order from Justice Samuel Alito that had previously paused enforcement of the appeals court ruling.

In its statement, the Post-Gazette argued that recent court decisions would force the paper to operate under terms it considers outdated.

“Recent rulings would require the Post-Gazette to function under a 2014 labor agreement that mandates inflexible operational practices,” the statement said. “Those conditions are not compatible with the realities of modern local journalism.”

Labor tensions between the newspaper and its newsroom employees have defined much of the past several years. Journalists represented by the Newspaper Guild were on strike for more than three years before voting in November to return to work. Their decision followed a favorable ruling from a three-judge panel on the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

While the owners framed Wednesday’s announcement as a financial necessity, the decision is likely to reverberate well beyond Pittsburgh. The potential closure underscores the mounting pressures facing legacy news organizations, particularly those navigating declining print revenue, digital transformation challenges and prolonged labor disputes.

It remains unclear whether any last-minute alternatives — including a sale, restructuring or continued legal action — could emerge before the stated May 3 shutdown date.

CNN Elevates Alayna Treene to White House Correspondent

0

CNN has announced it is promoting Alayna Treene to the role of White House Correspondent for the cable network.

Treene originally joined the network in January 2023 as a political reporter. At the time, her focus was on covering the 2024 campaign of President Donald Trump.

NBCUniversal is rolling out a suite of new interactive features on Peacock, giving sports fans expanded ways to experience the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, Super Bowl LX, and NBA All-Star Weekend. The enhancements are designed to offer unprecedented access to live action and behind-the-scenes moments across multiple sports.

Rinkside Live and Courtside Live, debuting on mobile devices, are first-of-their-kind experiences aimed at hockey, figure skating, and basketball fans. In addition, these features allow viewers to switch between curated camera angles while keeping the main broadcast in view.

Rinkside Live will offer unique perspectives, including a “Coaching Cam” for figure skating and a “Bench Cam” for ice hockey. These features give fans real-time insight into athletes’ preparation and reactions. A “Highlights Hub” will deliver vertical video recaps of key Olympic moments directly to mobile users.

Jim Denney, NBCUniversal’s chief product officer for global streaming, says the features put fans in control of their viewing experience. “From behind-the-scenes access as athletes prepare for competition to unique perspectives, Rinkside Live and Courtside Live put fans in control and take them deeper into the sports they love to celebrate, and the culture and stories that surround them,” Denney said.

Peacock will launch new Olympics mini-games on its mobile app. These include Prediction Games for figure skating and ice hockey, a daily multi-event Picks game, and Olympics trivia. The interactive features will run from January 24 through February 23. They complement Peacock’s extensive live coverage of the Winter Games, airing February 6–22.

For basketball fans, Courtside Live will debut during the NBA US vs. World All-Star Game on February 15, allowing viewers to explore multiple camera angles, including “Star Spotlight” and team-specific feeds that track bench reactions. On TV and web, these angles will be presented in a Multiview experience. During NBA All-Star Weekend, fans will also have access to highlights, live score updates, and recaps of key plays.

Peacock’s Super Bowl LX coverage will feature tools like Catch Up with Key Plays and Live Actions. These tools let viewers follow every major moment and discover additional content across the platform.

The new features build on Peacock’s prior innovations, including Gold Zone, Discovery Multiview, Live in Browse, and in-page sports hubs. These offerings reflect NBCUniversal’s push to make streaming more interactive, giving fans options to customize how they watch marquee events and engage with the stories around them.

Travis Kelce Undecided on NFL Return as Potential Media Career Could Be in His Future

0

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is taking a deliberate approach to his professional future, leaving the door open for both a return to the NFL and a possibly a potential career in television.

On the latest edition of his New Heights podcast, co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis described his current mindset and timeline he’s approaching to a decision. “Just being a regular human for a couple weeks, maybe a month or so, and try to figure out what I’m going to do next in terms of my future at football,” he said.

Kelce emphasized that his discussions with the Chiefs have been candid about a potential return to the playing field as well. Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion, has hauled in 1,080 passes for 13,002 yards and 82 touchdowns over the course of his career with the Chiefs.

“I’ve talked to a few people in the facility already. Having the exit meetings and everything, and they know where I stand, at least right now. And I think there’s a lot of love for the game that’s still there, and I don’t think I’ll ever lose that,” he said.

Kelce’s comments come amid speculation about a possible move into broadcasting. Reporting from The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand suggests Kelce could become a top candidate for high-profile television roles, potentially commanding an eight-figure salary. Marchand said Kelce would likely pursue a “No. 1 job” in the booth, emphasizing his marketability and appeal to networks.

The tight end already has experience in media, co-hosting New Heights, making television and film cameos, and hosting the Prime Video reboot of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader? However, deciding whether to return to the NFL remains the focus in which Kelce admitted, is a challenging process.

“It’s a tough thing to navigate. But at the same time, you know, I think if my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat. So I think right now, it’s just finding that answer and seeing how the body feels after this game, and kind of when it all settles down,” said Kelce.

Kelce’s combination of on-field success, media savvy, and fan popularity makes him a rare prospect capable of commanding both respect and top-tier compensation in broadcasting. Despite the allure of TV, Kelce indicated that football remains a priority while he evaluates his options.

Face the Nation Tops Rivals During Weekend of Marco Rubio and Venezuela Focused Shows

0

Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared on Face the Nation, This Week with George Stephanopoulos, and Meet the Press on Sunday morning. The CBS News program took the top spot in the Nielsen ratings.

The January 4th edition of the program saw 3.3 million viewers for the half-hour version of its broadcast. That marks the 15th consecutive week that Face the Nation earned the top spot in the Sunday public affairs ratings.

Additionally, the CBS News show saw 442,000 viewers from the coveted Persons 25-54 demographic during the Sunday program, which also included interviews with  Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Chris Van Hollen (D-KS).

However, Face the Nation finished behind Meet the Press in that key demo, as the Kristen Welker-led program earned 478,000 viewers from that sector.

The NBC News program saw an average audience of 3.020 million viewers during the hour. That rested just slightly behind This Week with George Stephanopoulos, with the ABC News show earning 3.049 million viewers during the week.

In the full-hour ratings for Face the Nation, the CBS News show averaged 2.9 million viewers.

Fox News Sunday — helmed by Gillian Turner in the stead of Shannon Bream — saw just over 1 million viewers, with 203,000 coming from the key demographic.

The news of Face the Nation earning the most overall viewers in the linear television metrics comes on the heels of the data showing that NBC News’ Meet the Press earned the most viewers on both YouTube and TikTok compared to the rival shows from CBS News and ABC News.

On YouTube, Meet the Press topped one million views for the Rubio segment alone in the first 24 hours after publishing. That figure topped ABC News’ This Week with George Stephanopoulos, which drew about 340,000 views. CBS News’ Face the Nation trailed further, finishing with roughly 184,000 YouTube views, as of this publication.

Short-form video told a similar story. Meet the Press amassed nearly 6 million TikTok views tied to the Rubio interview. CBS News posted 946,600 TikTok views, according to publicly available figures. ABC News utilized a slightly different strategy on the platform, distributing three clips that collectively generated just over 5 million views from those videos.

How to Avoid Foreclosure: 5 Strategies That Actually Work

0

If you’re dealing with missed mortgage payments, you already know how quickly things can snowball. One month behind turns into two, and suddenly you’ve got letters in the mail that look way more official than anything you’ve ever wanted to open. Figuring out how to avoid foreclosure doesn’t always feel clear when you’re in the middle of it, but there really are steps that help. Some are simple. Some take a bit more work. But they’re all things regular people use every day to keep their homes, or at least stay in control of the situation.

1. Selling your home: Something most people ask quietly, can I sell my house to avoid foreclosure?

A surprising number of homeowners don’t even want to say the question out loud: can I sell my house to avoid foreclosure? The honest answer is yes, and a lot of people do it long before the bank gets anywhere close to taking the property.

If you’ve got equity, a normal sale can clean up the loan balance and maybe leave you with a little financial breathing room. If you’re underwater, a short sale might still be possible if the lender agrees. The biggest benefit? You stay in charge of the timeline instead of waiting on an auction date you didn’t choose.

Selling isn’t anyone’s first choice, but it’s one of those options that ends up helping people more than they expected. And it beats having foreclosure on your record for years.

2. Calling the lender early: yes, it’s awkward, but it helps you avoid foreclosure

No one likes calling their lender. Nobody wakes up thinking, “Let me chat with my mortgage company today.” But making that call early is one of the most effective ways to avoid foreclosure, and it’s the thing most people wait too long to do.

Lenders aren’t excited about foreclosing. It’s expensive, slow, and usually not profitable. Because of that, many have programs to help you catch up, repayment plans, temporary pauses, sometimes even a modified loan with different terms. But these options shrink fast if you wait until the sale date is already announced.

It’s uncomfortable, sure. But it’s also one of the most straightforward ways to keep the situation from spiraling.

3. Sorting through the real choices when you’re learning how to avoid foreclosure

If you start Googling how to avoid foreclosure, you’ll see everything from legitimate strategies to sketchy “miracle solutions.” Realistically, you’ve got a handful of genuine paths: loan modification, forbearance, refinancing, selling the home, or filing for bankruptcy if you’re really up against the wall.

A loan modification can adjust your monthly payment. Forbearance gives you temporary breathing room. Refinancing resets the loan if your finances still qualify. And if you’re down to the wire, bankruptcy, especially Chapter 13, can legally freeze the foreclosure and give you time to reorganize.

None of these are “easy,” but they are real. The right answer depends more on your situation than anything else.

4. Looking at practical ways to avoid foreclosure before things reach crisis mode

There are plenty of ways to avoid foreclosure, but they work best when you act before things hit full crisis. The warning signs usually show up long before the bank steps in: reduced hours at work, medical bills that keep stacking up, or a temporary loss of income.

Take a look at your budget. Not the ideal one, the real one. Cut whatever isn’t absolutely necessary, even if just for a while. Sometimes saving a few hundred dollars a month is enough to keep you on track. A HUD-approved housing counselor can also help a lot more than people expect. They walk homeowners through these situations every day and know how lenders think, what paperwork matters, and how to present things properly.

Most people don’t lose their home because they lack options. They lose it because they waited too long to explore them.

5. When it’s time to get someone in your corner

There’s a moment when everything starts to feel overwhelming, letters piling up, deadlines you didn’t know existed, rules that make no sense. That’s often when talking to a professional becomes the best move. A lawyer who works with foreclosure cases isn’t emotionally tangled in the situation; they can see what’s realistic and what’s not.

They can explain your rights, spot things you may have missed, and sometimes even buy you time you didn’t think you had. Getting help doesn’t mean the situation is hopeless. It just means you’re not trying to navigate a maze alone.

‘Monday Night Football’ Earns Second-Highest Viewed Regular Season on ESPN

0

ESPN’s 2025 Monday Night Football (MNF) season emerged as one of the network’s most-watched campaigns in two decades, highlighted by record-breaking games and gains across nearly every key demographic. The season, which featured 23 regular-season games including two Week 18 contests, averaged 16.5 million viewers per game—up 10% from 2024—and set a new standard for the network’s NFL coverage.

The Week 18 finale was particularly notable. Seahawks-49ers drew 27.5 million viewers, making it the NFL’s most-watched Week 18 game and one of the highest-rated broadcasts in ESPN’s history. Panthers-Buccaneers, the earlier game that day, pulled in 21 million viewers. The Seahawks-49ers matchup alone outpaced the comparable Week 18 primetime game from last season by 25%, while the Panthers-Buccaneers game was up 22%.

Excluding the Week 18 games, MNF averaged 15.8 million viewers across 21 contests—trailing only the 2023 season in ESPN’s 20-year history of broadcasting the league. Five games exceeded 20 million viewers, marking the most in a single MNF season for ESPN. Among the season’s highest-rated contests were Lions-Ravens (22.8 million), Chiefs-Jaguars (22.3 million), and Vikings-Bears (22.1 million), ranking as ESPN’s fourth, sixth, and eighth most-watched MNF games ever.

The numbers reflect sustained momentum for MNF under the Buck–Aikman era. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, along with sideline reporters Lisa Salters and, more recently, Laura Rutledge, have anchored three of ESPN’s top-rated MNF seasons since 2006 (2023–2025). The current stretch also includes eight of the network’s most-watched games over the past four seasons.

MNF’s success in 2025 extended across demographics. Viewership among adults 18–49 increased 5% over 2024, while the female audience jumped 15%. Younger viewers saw double-digit gains, with 20% more viewers aged 2–17 and 17% more viewers aged 18–24 compared to the prior year.

Overall, more than 130 million viewers tuned in to ESPN’s NFL coverage throughout the regular season, which featured multiple doubleheader nights over four separate weeks.

ESPN’s 2025–26 postseason coverage continues with Monday night’s Wild Card matchup on January 12 (8 p.m. ET) between the AFC’s fifth-seed Houston Texans and fourth-seed Pittsburgh Steelers. Houston enters on a nine-game winning streak, while Pittsburgh comes off a dramatic Week 18 victory. The network’s coverage concludes with a Divisional Round game Jan. 17 or 18.

NBC Sports Analyst Jason Garrett Reportedly Will Interview for Tennessee Titans’ Head Coaching Job

0

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach and current NBC Sports analyst Jason Garrett is scheduled to interview Friday for the Tennessee Titans’ vacant head coaching position, according to multiple reports. Garrett joins a growing list of candidates in the search to replace Brian Callahan, who was dismissed midseason following a 1-5 start to the 2025 campaign.

Garrett, 59, last served on an NFL sideline in 2021 as the New York Giants’ offensive coordinator. His head coaching tenure with the Cowboys lasted eight seasons, from 2011 to 2019. He compiled an 85-67 record and won three NFC East titles. He earned NFL Coach of the Year honors in 2016.

Since leaving coaching, Garrett has maintained a prominent presence in football broadcasting. He joined NBC Sports in 2022 to provide analysis for both NFL and Notre Dame games. While his name has occasionally surfaced in college coaching circles, he has not returned to sideline leadership.

As the Cowboys’ head coach for nine seasons, Garrett won three division titles and was named Associated Press Coach of the Year in 2016. He compiled an 85-67 (.559) regular-season record. The second-most wins by a head coach in team history.

He began his coaching career as the Quarterbacks Coach for the Miami Dolphins under Nick Saban. He also served as the Offensive Coordinator for both the Cowboys and New York Giants.

Before becoming a coach, Garrett had a 14-year NFL playing career with the Cowboys, Giants, Buccaneers, Dolphins, and Saints, mostly as a backup quarterback. He was part of three Super Bowl-winning Cowboys teams in 1992, 1993, and 1995. He also was a member of the NFC Champion Giants in 2000.

Tennessee is casting a wide net. Other reported interviewees include former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and Kansas City Chiefs coordinators Matt Nagy and Steve Spagnuolo. Also included are Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and former Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris.

NBC Sports nor Garrett has publicly commented on the reporting.

Al Michaels Hints at When He’ll Know Its Time To Step Away From Calling NFL Games

0

Al Michaels is not putting a timeline on the end of his broadcasting career. The longtime play-by-play voice of NFL on Prime Video says his future will be determined by one standard. He will continue only if he feels he can call games at a level that meets his own expectations.

Michaels, who will be on the call Saturday night as the Chicago Bears face the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Wild Card round, discussed his outlook during a recent appearance on Mad Dog Unleashed with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on SiriusXM. The playoff matchup will mark Michaels’ final NFL broadcast of the season.

“I’ll go as long as I can or I want to,” Michaels said. “But I have to be able to know that I can do the game at the level that satisfies me.”

Michaels, 81, joined Amazon Prime’s NFL coverage for the 2022 season after a storied run calling games for several networks. His move to streaming reflected both his enduring presence in the broadcast world and the growing competition among platforms to attract high-profile sports talent.

Now in his fourth season calling games for Amazon Prime Video, Michaels made it clear he does not currently feel close to stepping away. He said the decision to continue will ultimately come down to self-awareness and performance, rather than outside opinions or milestones.

“If I feel not as what I have been or the way I perceive myself to have been, that’ll be time to step away,” Michaels said. “I don’t feel that right now, though.”

Michaels also spoke glowingly about his experience with Prime Video, describing the partnership as a seamless transition and one that has exceeded expectations on both a professional and audience level.

“I love what I do. I work with great people,” Michaels said. “The Amazon thing has worked out extremely well.”

Michaels has shared the booth with analyst Kirk Herbstreit, bringing a combination of decades-long experience and insight into modern NFL strategy. Their broadcasts balance a traditional play-by-play style with the platform’s digital-first approach. Michaels’ Thursday Night Football partner initially inked a five-year contract with Amazon in 2022, and is signed through next season. As for himself, Michaels is currently on a season-to-season agreement with Prime Video.

Michaels credited Amazon’s leadership and production team for creating an environment that allows him to focus solely on the broadcast. He said the support from the company has been a major factor in his desire to keep going.

“The Amazon folks, the Prime folks, have been fantastic,” Michaels said.

Since launching Thursday Night Football in 2022, Prime Video has consistently delivered strong viewership numbers. Michaels pointed to Amazon’s Christmas night broadcast, which drew more than 21 million viewers, as an example of the platform’s continued growth and reach.

“We did 21 million people on Christmas night,” he said. “Who knows what we do this week? It’s a big, big number.”

When asked about broadcasters who continued calling games late in their careers, Michaels cited two iconic Los Angeles voices: Vin Scully and Chick Hearn. Both worked well into their 80s. Michaels said their longevity is a reminder that age does not have to dictate ability.

“I loved listening to them up until the very end,” Michaels said. “As long as I can feel like I can be at the top of my game, I hope to go on.”
