KMOX NewsRadio 1120 announced former NHL center and St. Louis native Joey Vitale will join the Blues radio broadcast as an analyst for the upcoming season. Vitale will partner with veteran play-by-play announcer Chris Kerber on the call.
“This is my city,” Vitale said during the KMOX announcement of his hiring. “And I always wanted to be a Blue. I’m so passionate about this team, since from the very get-go with my dad bringing me to games as a kid.”
Vitale’s hockey career was cut short due to lingering effects from a concussion he suffered after a fight with Kevan Miller in 2015. The 32-year old played for the Penguins and Coyotes, but now the former NHL center moves on to the next phase of his career by joining the radio broadcast of the team he grew up rooting for.
Vitale takes over for analyst Kelly Chase in the booth. Chase was partnered with Kerber in the Blues radio booth for 18 years before leaving the broadcast after last season to pursue a business opportunity.
The Blues 2018-19 NHL season begins October 4th at home against the Winnipeg Jets.
