Jemele Hill did not stay a free agent for long after parting ways with ESPN. She has joined The Atlantic to “cover the intersection of sports, race, politics, gender, and culture” according to a tweet from the publication’s Editor-In-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg. Hill responded to the announcement by tweeting simply “????????”.
Note that it is not The Athletic. Hill will have more freedom to not #StickToSports at a publication that focuses on culture and politics. Her role will still be to cover sports, but The Atlantic is hiring Hill to cover sports through their own lens. It seems like a better fit for her than Jimmy Pitaro’s vision of ESPN.
Hill will also be busy with film projects outside of her duties for her new employer. She will narrate LeBron James’ Shut Up and Dribble documentary on Showtime in November. She is also preparing to start working on projects with Lodge Freeway Media, the production company she founded with Kelley L. Carter.
