The Big Ten Network’s primary football play-by-play crew will need a new analyst for the remainder of the season. Matt Millen, will leave the booth for the remainder of the season to focus on his health.
Millen, who joined Kevin Kugler in the Big Ten Network booth in 2015, has been dealing with the effects of Amyloidosis for the better part of the last two years. It is a rare disease that causes abnormal proteins produced in bone marrow to build up in other organs. In a segment about the disease that aired on a Big Ten Network pregame show, Millen says that amyloidosis effects his heart and that the organ functions at only 30% of what it should.

Millen played for Penn State prior to the Nittany Lions joining the Big Ten. He covered the NFL as a game analyst for CBS after playing in the league for twelve years. After a memorably unsuccessful stint as General Manager of the Detroit Lions, Millen returned to broadcasting, first at the NFL Network, then with ESPN and Big Ten Network.
