Miller to Retire From NBC, Azinger Set to Take Over

Johnny Miller has been the lead analyst on NBC golf broadcasts for the past 29 years. But Golfweek is reporting that Miller is ready to step aside. No official end date has been given, but Miller’s contract ends in February.

Losing the man that has been a part of NBC’s golf coverage since 1990 is certainly big news. Who is replacing him might be bigger news though. Paul Azinger is expected to fill Miller’s seat and Golfweek reports that NBC won’t be the only place Azinger will work.

In a fascinating twist that may have been inspired by Alex Rodriguez’s split time on ESPN and Fox baseball coverage this year, Azinger will remain on Fox Sports broadcasts of the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open while taking the NBC seat vacated by Miller. An announcement is set for as early as Tuesday.

Azinger first joined Fox in 2016, when he replaced Greg Norman. Prior to that he was the lead golf analyst for ESPN and ABC. As it stands now, Miller’s final event at NBC will be the Waste Management Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.
