Why is College Gameday Going to Washington St?

ESPN’s College Gameday is widely considered one of the gold standards in pregame shows. That is not just for college football, but across all sports. The show has made a tradition of going on the road to be at the biggest game of the weekend for years. The biggest game this weekend is 16th ranked NC State’s visit to #3 Clemson. The game is on ABC.

So why is College Gameday going to be in Pullman, Washington for #12 Oregon and #25 Washington State? The game isn’t even on a Disney-owned network. It will be broadcast by rival Fox.

Washington State and its fans play an important role in the history of College Gameday. Cougars fans have made sure Ol’ Crimson, a giant flag bearing the Washington State logo, has appeared at every College Gameday broadcast for the last 15 years. It is a 216 game streak dating back to WSU alum Tom Pounds (class of 81) bringing the flag to Austin in 2003. This will be the first time that Ol’ Crimson will ever have the opportunity to appear in her hometown.

Pullman will be the 70th different location to host College Gameday. The show has been at a game involving Oregon 19 times. Lee Corso is 13-6 when picking the team.
