Fox Introducing Corner Flag Cams For MLS Cup

Fox has never been afraid to innovate when it comes to sports coverage. This is the network that gave us the glow puck and the yellow first down line after all. Now the network will play with the traditional presentation of soccer with the introduction of the corner flag camera.

Michael Davies, the SVP of Field and Technical Operations for Fox Sports, says the coverage is inspired by the use of cameras on end zone pylons in football coverage. “We have seen the value of pylon cameras in American football from time to time, so we decided to try the corner flags … we’ll look for opportunities to use this new view to enhance our storytelling.”

The MLS Cup will be decided Sunday between Atlanta United FC and the Portland Timbers. In addition to the corner flag came, Fox will employ 26 cameras to cover the event. John Strong will call the match with Stu Holden and Katie Witham on color analysis.
