Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannoti talked about Mike Francesa’s comments about the shooting of New York Giants draft pick Corey Ballentine on their show this morning. The WFAN morning duo called the statements idiotic. That did not sit well with the Sports Pope.
Francesa called in to defend himself, and he held nothing back. The WFAN afternoon host claimed that he never said that it was a character concern that Ballentine was shot. According to Francesa, he said if it turns out Ballentine was doing something he wasn’t supposed to or somewhere he wasn’t supposed to be, the Giants will look foolish for stressing that they focused on drafting high character guys in 2019.
Gianotti fired back that there was no way he and Esiason could have taken Francesa out of context. They were reading his words verbatim.
Bad blood between the morning and afternoon shows at WFAN is nothing new. Francesa has complained before about Giannoti’s impressions of him. Certainly calling into Boomer and Gio to accuse the hosts of having no integrity isn’t the first step towards building a bridge.
Boomer and Gio also aren’t the only ones to have called Francesa out for his comments on the shooting. Ballentine’s own father said that if Francesa did any research, he would see that Corey Ballentine is the kind of kid Francesa wishes he had for a son.
