Premium cable network Epix has signed a deal with the NFL to produce a new weekly series. NFL: The Grind will premier on September 11 and appears to be a mix of studio analysis and news magazine.
A press release notes that no host has been named for the show yet. In addition to in depth analysis of the games, The Grind will also feature NFL players taking fans behind the scenes for field pieces “that will give fans an inside look behind the grind, documenting never-before-told stories of NFL players, coaches and more as they navigate the season.”
The deal with the NFL comes shortly after Epix struck a deal with AT&T for carriage on DirecTV and DirecTV Now. The premium cable network has not been on DirecTV until now. The AT&T deal and last year’s deal between the network and Comcast gives Epix wide enough distribution that made a relationship with the NFL possible.
This will not be the first time Epix has dipped its toe into the sports programming water. The network produced a behind the scenes documentary series around the NHL’s Winter Classic in 2015. That series moved to NBCSN in 2017.
