Ryan Mitchell Leaving Blue Jackets Broadcast Team

The pre, post and in-game host for Columbus Blue Jackets radio broadcasts announced he was leaving the position he’s held since September 2016.  For three seasons Ryan Mitchell was part of the Blue Jackets radio team on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus Ohio, but next season, the broadcaster will instead be coaching high school wrestling.

“I haven’t said anything until it was official and now it is. I have accepted the position of head wrestling coach at Grove City High School. I’m very excited about this new opportunity and I’m looking forward to working with a great group of kids,” Mitchell wrote on Twitter.

Mitchell followed up his announcement with a tweet stating his new high school wrestling coach gig does mean he will no longer be part of the Columbus Blue Jackets radio network.  Going back to 2002, Mitchell has on and off worked as a wrestling coach throughout his professional career.

According to the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America, the Blue Jackets are expected to hire Mitchell’s replacement, not their flagship radio station, 97.1 The Fan which was recently sold.  Last week, Tegna Inc. announced they agreed to acquire 97.1 The Fan as part of a larger $535 million deal to purchase television stations from Dispatch Broadcast Group.
