Boomer Esiason Is CBS’s Back Up Plan For Sunday

Tony Romo will compete in the Safeway Open later this week. The former Cowboys QB’s golf prowess is well-known. It has even earned him a spot on CBS’s golf coverage in the past.

Although the chances of Romo advancing in the event are slim, CBS still needs a backup plan for its top NFL broadcast if it does happen. According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, if Romo is unavailable CBS will turn to Boomer Esiason to partner with Jim Nantz on Sunday.

Boomer is currently part of CBS’s studio crew, but has plenty of play-by-play experience. He spent two seasons as the analyst on ABC’s Monday Night Football broadcast in the late 90s. In 2000, Boomer shifted to radio calling Monday Night Football and 19 consecutive Super Bowls for Westwood One.

Romo, Boomer, Nantz, and the rest of the world will know how this all shakes out by Friday. That is when the Safeway Open will cut its field and everyone at CBS can make their weekend plans.
