Arky Shea is no longer with the Cumulus owned UMP Sports in Huntsville, AL. It ends a more than six-year tenure at WUMP for the program director and show host.
According to Shea, the company chose to eliminate WUMP’s program director position, which subsequently ended his time as co-host of the station’s afternoon show. BSM has learned the programming void will be filled by Dale Jackson, PD of sister station WVNN News Talk 92.5 FM and 770 AM.
The decision by Cumulus to eliminate the PD position for UMP Sports also means the end of Shea’s tenure as a weekday host for the station. Shea’s afternoon co-host Jason Marks will now be joined by WUMP weekend host Tony Mac.
Shea moved to the station’s afternoon show almost exactly a year ago as part of a pretty consistent trend of bouncing around timeslots for the radio host. Prior to afternoons, Shea hosted mornings with Cole Cubelic until Cole left in 2018 for JOX 94.5 in Birmingham. Cubelic’s departure led Shea to co-host with Thom Abraham in the afternoon, a show he previously spent more than two years on as an associate producer of earlier in his radio career.
In the summer of 2018, Shea launched a local morning show with former Auburn and NFL defensive back Jerraud Powers. Powers, not a fan of the early morning schedule, decided to quit the show in the fall, sending Shea back to afternoons on WUMP.
As a comedian, the Huntsville, AL native brings a fun approach to daily radio, one that will continue to build an audience at his next gig, like he did with WUMP.
