Mike Taylor and his family are leaving Texas, but the Ticket 760 host isn’t giving up his gig in San Antonio. The family has decided to relocate to Honolulu. iHeartMedia is accommodating the move by shifting Taylor’s show from mornings to afternoon. Chris Duel will move into the morning drive slot.
Taylor told Barrett Sports Media that Hawaii’s laws would be more protective of his son, who is transgendered. “It’s not that Texas sucks,” he said. “It’s that Hawaii is awesome. It will be better for my son, particularly as we get into adolescence.”
Hawaii is familiar territory to the Taylor family. “My wife and I have been eight times in the last eight years,” Mike told BSM.
Doing a show for San Antonio from a different city is also familiar. Taylor’s wife is a former TV news director. The family left Texas for Green Bay in 2013, but Taylor continued working for Ticket 760. Most recently he was doing the show from his home in Austin.
The move will actually mean Taylor will be in San Antonio more often. The family will spend the school year on Oahu and the summers back in San Antonio.
Taylor made the announcement Friday morning during his show. He will be off air the next two weeks as his family makes the move. The station’s new lineup will debut on February 3.
