Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff sent a memo to his staff on Friday announcing some major cutbacks, including around 100 furloughs. The employees not effected by the furloughs will see hour reductions. Bankoff and Vox Media President Pam Wasserstein will take 50% pay cuts as the company tries to weather the coronavirus pandemic.
SB Nation seems to have taken the brunt of the hit. Some of the site’s most popular writers took to Twitter to announce that they wouldn’t be working for the next three months.
The Vox Media Union fought hard for its members. The group took to Twitter to announce what concessions it won before the company began announcing the furloughs.
The furloughed employees will stop working on May 1.
