Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported weeks ago that Will Cain was likely to leave ESPN Radio. Now Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reports that the move could happen soon. Cain is said to be close to a deal with FOX News.
But that may not be the end of the musical chairs played at ESPN Radio. Marchand reports that the shuffle could end with Mike Greenberg back on the radio and Dan Le Batard as the odd man out.
The Big Lead previously reported that Trey Wingo wanted off of ESPN Radio’s morning show Golic & Wingo. Mike Golic and Mike Golic Jr are expected to remain with the network in some capacity, but that doesn’t mean a Mike & Mike reunion is happening any time soon. The more likely scenario is that Greenberg stays on TV as part of Get Up! and then gets a radio show in a mid day window, which would get wider clearance.
As for Le Batard, he still has more than a year left on his contract, but it could be ESPN’s Executive Vice President, Norby Williamson driving the desire for change. Marchand says his sources have indicated that Le Batard’s show doesn’t match Williamson’s vision for the network.
So who would be on deck to fill some of these openings? Marchand reports that ESPN is looking internally. Amongst the names he mentions are Mina Kimes and Keyshawn Johnson (both of whom would have to relocate from the West Coast). Some names to watch already on the East Coast are Peter Rosenburg and Max Kellerman.
