Miller & Condon Turn KXNO Into Restaurant Radio

Every Tuesday and Thursday KXNO’s mid day show is putting the spotlight on locally owned restaurants in the Des Moines area. On those days, Miller & Condon are bringing restaurant owners on to talk about their business. They are calling the promotion “restaurant radio.”

“We go over their updated menu, carryout/delivery/curbside options and the origins of the restaurant. It’s no cost for the restaurants and we’ve seen a huge outpouring of support for these restaurants across Central Iowa,” Trent Condon told Barrett Sports Media in an email. “On Fridays we recap the restaurants from the week to give our listeners some ideas for weekend meals.”

The idea was born out of an old talk radio promotion called “Tradio.” In that concept, listeners with something for sale call in, describe what it is and how much they want for it. Condon says that he and partner Ken Miller used the concept as a jumping off point to help local businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The response from listeners has been tremendous according to the restaurants that have participated in the promotion. Condon says the owners have reported “huge jumps in sales when they come on the air” and “people that had never heard of the restaurant giving it a shot.”
