NFL fans that have cut the chord will have to stick with Amazon to watch Thursday Night Football. The digital giant extended its deal with the league to stream the eleven-game package through Amazon Prime and Twitch through the 2022 season. The new deal also comes with an exclusive game.
Amazon picks up the rights to one Saturday night NFL game during the second half of each season during the deal. The company will have to sell over-the-air broadcast rights to a local station in the city of each team playing. Otherwise, the game will be an Amazon exclusive.
No terms of the new deal were disclosed. In 2018 Amazon agreed to pay $65 million per season to be the streaming home of Thursday Night Football.
The new deal now syncs up with FOX’s deal to carry the games on linear TV. Both will expire after the 2022 season. That could indicate Amazon’s desire to acquire exclusive rights to the Thursday night package the next time they are on the market.
