Atlanta-based frozen pizza company Carlo’s Pizza was recently featured on Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy’s Twitter account as part of his Frozen Pizza review. El Presidente deemed Carlo’s “really good frozen pizza.” He also promised the company would see more orders than usual very quickly.
“I want you guys to listen to me very closely, because what I’m about to say is true,” Portnoy said into the camera. “You guys are going to see a rush of deliveries tonight like you’ve never seen before. You guys are gonna see the power of Dave Portnoy on full display, because this is f***ing great pizza!”
The Accardi family, which owns Carlo’s was clearly not disappointed. A stoolie named Jordan Shaw shared a screenshot with Portnoy of the message he received from the family when he tried to order Carlo’s Pizza.
Portnoy has eaten at least one slice of pizza everyday for the last two years. He told Men’s Health “Everybody likes it. It’s the perfect food. It’s god’s gift to food,” in a 2019 interview. Reviewing independently owned restaurants has become one of Portnoy’s most popular types of content on Barstool’s platforms. Most of his “One Bite With Davey Pageviews” pizza review garner millions of views.
As for the Dave Portnoy effect, Atlanta’s Accardi family isn’t the first to feel it. Legendary Chicago chain Lou Malnati’s confirmed the impact Portnoy’s attention can have on a business.
