Linda Cohn has always been quick to defend the NHL and the game of hockey. It should be no surprise then that she has some harsh words for Max Kellerman after the First Take co-host said that hockey isn’t “one of the four main team sports” in America.
“I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but in the United States, nobody really cares about hockey,” Kellerman said while discussing the NHL’s decision to return with 24 teams to finish its season. “The old joke is, in every city there are 20,000 hockey fans [and] they all have seasonal tickets. So the arena is always sold out, but TV ratings don’t do anything. It is not one of the four main team sports.”
Cohn, who has long been a vocal fan of the sport and a supporter of the New York Rangers wasn’t having it. So, she took to Twitter.
It is important to note that Max Kellerman didn’t name what the fourth major American team sport is if it isn’t hockey. While NHL ratings lag well behind those of the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball, the league is coming off its highest rated Stanley Cup Finals in years, and no other sport consistently out-rates the league.
