Some Interesting Names Get Fill-In Shots At WFAN This Week

With ratings much less scrutinized during the summer months, it presents an opportunity for sports radio stations to test different show pairings. And this week, WFAN is doing just that as their 10am – 2pm midday show featuring Marc Malusis and Maggie Gray is on vacation.

Filling in, Tiki Barber and Brandon Tierney will pull double duty, hosting at noon on WFAN, followed by their regular afternoon show on CBS Sports Radio. Tiki and Tierney is an interesting fit for WFAN considering they’re a duo that resonates with the New York fan, but their show isn’t heard terrestrially in the market. BT is a born and bred New Yorker with die-hard rooting interests for his local teams, while Tiki spent nearly a decade as a running back for the Giants.

Leading into Tiki and Tierney on WFAN will be overnight host and regular weekday fill-in John Jastremski who will partner with former NFL linebacker Brian Jones. Best of luck to their producer on getting JJ and Jones to break on time, the two hosts are incredibly enthusiastic personalities who will make the two-hours feel like a sprint. Jones spent half a decade with CBS Sports Radio, first as an evening host with Chris Moore, followed by a stint in morning drive with Gregg Giannotti, until Gio left for WFAN in 2018.

Normally when a WFAN show takes vacation, the timeslot is filled with one host or pairing. It’s interesting to see FAN squeeze two shows into the four-hour block vacated by Moose and Maggie for a week.

Management has maintained no schedule changes are on the horizon for WFAN. There are no current openings in WFAN’s lineup, but with the station’s recent downward ratings trend and their need to become more diverse, outside speculation on change has continued to circle.
