Episode 101 of JJ Redick’s podcast will be offered by a new platform – his own, as the 14-year NBA veteran and his podcast co-host Tommy Alter left The Ringer to start a new company.
As reported by Scott Cacciola of The New York Times, Redick and Alter are launching ThreeFourTwo Productions, the name being an ode to the 342 shots the NBA guard routinely makes every Sunday during the offseason. For ThreeFourTwo Productions, Redick and Alter (who produces The Shop and Desus & Mero) are partnering with Cadence13, a podcast company and subdivision of Entercom’s RADIO.COM.
Redick reluctantly launched his podcast in 2015, telling Cacciola he nervously prepped 15 pages of notes to interview his friend and NBA colleague Jared Dudley. In 2017, the podcast moved to The Ringer and now he and Alter are launching its next installment titled The Old Man and The Three for their production company. Episode one was released Wednesday, Aug. 5 featuring Damian Lillard. Episode two dropped Thursday with Stacey Abrams as their guest.
In addition to their own podcast, Redick and Alter have aspirations of creating a network of shows for their platform.
“We want to bring on people we know in different industries, whether that’s doing another basketball pod or a food pod or a political pod,” Redick told The Times. “These are the sorts of conversations we’re having right now. But the focus right now is on launching the new podcast.”
