Trey Wingo is set to exit Bristol according to Andrew Marchand of The New York Post. The end of Golic and Wingo on ESPN Radio has left the 56-year-old without a significant daily or weekly role at the network.
Marchand writes that he reached out to both ESPN and Wingo. The network declined to comment, while Wingo did not respond.
As for his future, Wingo is walking into the unknown. He reportedly prefers to land at the NFL Network, but has not made any progress with decision makers there. Wingo’s deal with ESPN will expire at year’s end.
Wingo has been at ESPN since 1997, and the network did discuss a new role for him after the end of his run on ESPN Radio. He is the former host of SportsCenter and NFL Live, which was viewed as a potential landing spot. Wingo’s name was left out though when the new lineup for that show was unveiled last month. Without NFL Live, ESPN did not feel it made sense to hold on to Wingo if his only job was going to be to host three days of NFL Draft coverage every year.
